Regional Analysis

In the North East, despite a slight week-on-week decrease in footfall, the region has seen a significant increase compared to the same period last year. Dwell time in shopping centres has also risen, however, the share of weekday visitation has slightly decreased.

London shows a robust recovery with a notable year-on-year increase in footfall and a steady rise in dwell time, reflecting a positive trend in retail activity. The capital’s weekday visitation share has seen a minor decline, aligning with a broader trend of fluctuating consumer patterns during the workweek.

The East of England presents a mixed picture with a substantial increase in both footfall and dwell time year-on-year. This region also shows a significant rise in weekday visitation, suggesting a stronger consumer presence during the working week.

Conversely, Wales has experienced a decline in footfall year-on-year but has seen the most substantial increase in dwell time across all regions, indicating that while fewer people are visiting, those who do are spending more time per visit.

The West Midlands and Scotland show contrasting trends, with the former experiencing growth in footfall and dwell time, while the latter sees a decrease in both metrics. This highlights the regional disparities in consumer confidence and spending habits.

Market Outlook

Based on the direction of the latest data and trends from the same period last year, the coming four weeks are likely to see continued fluctuations in footfall and dwell time across UK retail centres.
